Facebook Enables Streaming Live Video on Android
Its here! Facebook live video-streaming is now available on Android devices, but only in the U.S. for now. It comes one month after the social network opened Facebook Live to all iOS users in the U.S.
Live-video streaming brings Facebook in competion with Twitter-owned Periscope and Meerkat, which earlier used Twitter but now works with Facebook’s API . By opening the live-stream, a user can broadcast what they are doing in real-time to their friends, followers and other people on the social network.
Live video has been a point of focus for Facebook for sometime now as it looks to broaden its News Feed to include more real-time content. In a post announcing the Android rollout today, Facebook said the average time its users spend watching live video is three times longer than when the video is not live.
The experiment seems pretty succeful for the celebreties but for common users it would be a challenge as one's friends would need to quickly join one's stream for it to be effective or fun for users.
