8 Yoga Poses to Relieve Anxiety & Stress!
Today’s fiercely competitive world is forcing us towards the path of relentless pursuit of success. In our pursuit to climb the ladder of fame and ambition, we continuously challenge our body and mind to the limits. This unrelenting toll on our body and mind, manifest in the long run in the form of with stress, anxiety, tension, depression etc.
Whether we suffer from a generalized or acute anxiety disorder, it can create feelings of limited control, low self-esteem, persistent fear, panic, anger and defeat. Faced with anxiety, most of us take recourse to medication as a treatment. This often times result in complete dependence on medication which has its share of known and unknown (long-term) side-effects.
‘YOGA’, one of the oldest sciences of life, can be great alternative or even a complement to medication to better manage and control anxiety and stress. As a long practicing yoga guide and lifelong student of the practice, I recommend following eight Yoga practices combined with regular “Meditation” for handling anxiety and winning back control of one’s life:
Also known as sun salutation, Surya Namaskar is a sequence of 12 yoga poses that flow one into the other with rhythmic breathing. It helps improve your memory and nervous system and also helps calm you down and get rid of anxiety. It normalizes the activity of the endocrine glands, especially the thyroid gland.
paschimottana = intense stretch of the west, calms the brain and helps relieve stress and depression.
Tadasana or the Mountain pose in which you raise your arms straight up, opening up the rib cage and keeping your shoulder blades dropped away from your ears, has been found to have great calming effect on our minds.
