BPL Roundup: City beats Everton, Chelsea manages to beat West Brom
Manchester City sit top of the Premier League table after a win today over Everton today.
Everton 0-2 Manchester City
While many thought that Manuel Pellegrini was a lame duck coming into this season, his team is certainly not playing that way, and once again put Everton to the sword, making the most of their chances. A goal from Kolarov that beat Tim Howard at his near post gave them the lead, and while the goalkeeper should have done better, it was still a venomous shot from the defender.
Everton were unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside from Romelu Lukaku in the first half, and there were some moments of panic at the back in the second half as they pushed for an equaliser, so they may feel that they could have gotten something from the game. However, they were finished off by some fantastic skill from Samir Nasri.
West Brom 2-3 Chelsea
Jose Mourinho's side got their first win of the season, but not without some trouble, as they took on West Brom today. New signing Pedro got off to a dream start by scoring early on in his debut, and while it wasn't the cleanest of finishes, he was still happy to get on the scoresheet.
Chelsea widened their lead through a Diego Costa goal, but just five minutes later West Brom were back in the game with a goal from James Morrison, who had an outstanding game.
Cesar Azpilicueta reinstated their two goal cushion, but Morrison was once again on target with a great header to make things very nervous for Chelsea for the remainder of the game.
Watford 0-0 Southmapton
Neither team here set the world alight today as they played out a scoreless draw, but perhaps the talking point to take from it is Southampton's start to the season being rather mediocre.
They set themselves some high standards last year and finished higher up the table than many had predicted, but with a lack of creative players they are finding it difficult to create any scoring chances, nevermind actually getting a goal.
