GM To Rent cars to Lyft drivers

... Editorial Team

General Motors and Lyft have announced a new program called Express Drive that will make GM vehicle rentals available to Lyft drivers. The experiment is being kickstarted in Chicago first and may be launched in other cities going forward. The rental fee including  insurance and maintenance has been fixed at $99 per week which is waivable for drivers who clocks more than 65 rides per week. The Express Drive will also be accessible as a part of GM's new Maven car-sharing brand.

The latest move by GM is increasingly being looked as marking a paradigm sift in the car market which could see the whole segment moving from hitherto owned car model to the new paradign where mobility costs become more of a monthly service fee like Netflix, Hulu or Spotify.
