How Yoga can help Kids take control of the self-1
Yoga brings together body, mind, and spirit and produces inner harmony. Lifestyle and information overload are leading to we loosing the mind-body connection and thereby blocking the path to spiritual bliss.
The Children of current generations are exposed to multifarious pieces of information which, if not synthesized properly, may lead to they getting submerged into a make believe world of endless hallucinations. At this stage a greater awareness about self and control over one’s faculties can help one navigate the blitzkrieg of information (both negative and positive) without getting submerged into it.
Kids are still at an evolutionary phase with an uncorrupted mind which needs to be nurtured properly to maintain its purity and guided in the right direction so that it collects and synthesizes information and inputs constructively. A combination of breathing techniques, behavioral guidelines and physical postures have found to produce remarkable results in case of many kids. Transformative impact has been observed on their concentration, their action or reaction in various situations, level of curiosity to name a few.
Regular Yoga practice creates better awareness of the self and leads to better self-esteem and self-respect. In a world where they are always under pressure to come up trumps in everything they do, Yoga is a refreshing break which allow them to float, to enjoy, come closer to the self without worrying about any end outcome. Thus Yoga introduces among our children the cornerstone values such as non-harming, truthfulness, moderation, cleanliness, gratitude, and self-discipline. These are holistic benefits which have long term implications and cannot be measured on the modern days metric of success and failure.
In my next article, I’ll talk about the specific ways in which Yoga helps children’s overall well being.
