Private Equity Investment in India at Record High Hits USD 19.5 billion in 2015

According to the PwC MoneyTree India report, Private equity investments during the October-December period totalled $ 3.9 billion, taking the deal value for the year 2015 to $19.5 billion, a record high for India.

The fourth quarter of 2015 saw investments worth $3.9 billion, which is however  a 12% drop as compared to the same period of 2014. Despite the drop, the earlier period jump in investment  helped 2015 to become the best year ever. The toal investment of  $19.5 billion worth of PE was spread across 159 deals.

Among the sectors,  the information technology and IT-enabled services (IT & ITeS) was the largest recipient with $1.3 billion in 93 deals, followed by the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector that attracted $910 million in 10 deals. Media & entertainment sector was the dark horse attracting investments worth $414 million.

Among the regions, Mumabi topped the list with $1.9 billion, while Bengaluru was a distant second with investments worth USD 733 million.
