India survived an Elton Chigumbura special to beat Zimbabwe by 4 runs in a last-ball thriller in the first ODI of the three-match series to start their campaign on a winning note at Harare Sports Club on Friday.Zimbabwe skipper Chigumbura scored an unbeaten 104 off 101 balls but missed out to hit a last ball six needed to register a stunning victory. Chigumbura reached his second successive ODI hundred in 96 balls, after hitting 117 against Pakistan in Lahore, as he took Zimbabwe close to victory.

Medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar held his nerves in the end and bowled a brilliant last over, conceding just 5 runs while defending 9 runs off the last six balls. Chasing a competitive 256-run target, Zimbabwe could only manage 251/7 in their 50 overs, falling short by just 4 runs in the end.

Indian spinners along with pace spearhead Kumar bowled a tight line and took 4 wickets between them while conceding 122 runs in their 30 overs combined. Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers for India as he finished with the figure of 2/41 whereas Kumar 1/35 and Harbhajan Singh 1/46 played their parts well.
